Description
The National Lottery Heritage Fund have funded a collaborative project between fifteen archive services across England and Wales, led by the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre (WSHC), to work with records of World War One Military Appeal Tribunals which were held in response those appealing for exemption from conscription under the Military Service Act 1916 which made every male British subject aged 18-41 liable to be called for military service (prior to this men would voluntarily attest their willingness to serve).
